Designing your new smile
Once you decide to move forward with your smile makeover, Dr. Kim begins planning the design of your smile. This can include thorough diagnostic work such as taking digital X-rays of your mouth, using digital impressions to make study models, and using Smile Design digital imaging software. He can also create a trial smile by applying a special dental material directly to your teeth, which allows you to see what your smile makeover will look like!
The overall aesthetics of your smile is dependent on how it complements your entire facial form. To achieve the most natural and youthful-looking smile, the appearance of your teeth must be in perfect harmony with your face, including the position of your lips, eyes and nose.
3-D Smile Design with CAD/CAM Technology
The Smile Design is a feature of Dr. Kim’s 3D CAD/CAM system. Using the CEREC digital PrimeScan scanner, Dr. Kim can scan your teeth and upload the scan data instantaneously to the Digital Smile Design console.
Dr. Kim then uses these digital models to show you the design of your smile, which takes into account your entire facial features. He uses this 3D simulation to ensure that your new smile is not only beautiful but is fully functional and that your bite will be properly aligned.
Dr. Kim will also make any adjustments to the design until you are completely satisfied with your future smile.
Our High-Tech Cosmetic Procedures
Dr. Kim uses a variety of procedures for a smile makeover, including:
Using 3D CAD-CAM technology called the CEREC (CEramic REConstruction), Dr. Kim can digitally scan, design and mill a high-quality porcelain crown in one visit. In one hour, most patients can walk out with a new permanent crown, meaning no temporary is needed.
Crowns can be used to fix chipped, broken-down or discolored teeth or to fill gaps in teeth.
With new technology in porcelain fabrication, veneers can be made ultra-thin, needing little to no preparation of the teeth. Previously, teeth had to be shaved down so that the veneers wouldn’t bulge.
Dr. Kim uses veneers to give teeth a permanent whitening, to straighten mildly crooked teeth, change the shape or length of teeth, close gaps and cover chips. In some cases, Dr. Kim will design and place porcelain veneers in just one visit.
As an economical alternative to porcelain veneers, Dr. Kim can fix many of the same cosmetic issues as with veneers using dental bonding. This tooth-colored material is similar to the bonding material used for fillings.
Dr. Kim offers advanced in-office professional whitening. Teeth can be whitened several shades brighter in just 1 hour.
Practically any smile can be straightened with Invisalign clear aligners. These high-grade plastic trays move your teeth slowly into their correct position.
Dr. Kim provides full-service dental implants, meaning he plans the treatment, places the implant and attaches the final restoration (crown) all in the comfort of his office.
With modern technology, missing teeth can be replaced with long-lasting, natural-looking and –feeling implants in a quick, minimally invasive procedure. In many cases, he can use CAD/CAM technology to make a beautiful new crown without the need for temporaries.
With CEREC, Dr. Kim can custom design and mill porcelain onlays (coverings that go over the cusps of teeth) and inlays (coverings that fit between the cusps) in only one visit. These are both an alternative to fillings or crowns, and can be used to restore mildly broken-down teeth.
Both onlays and inlays are stronger when compared to fillings, and preserve more of the natural tooth structure compared to crowns. The porcelain material that is used to create the onlays and inlays is also very natural-looking and hardly noticeable to others. To make an appointment, call (714) 832-8000 or click here to request an appointment online.
