Jaw Movement Disorders

Treating Movement Disorders of the Jaw To Prevent Pain & Damage to the Oral Structure


TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) is the joint that connects the jawbone to the skull. TMJ disorders are conditions that cause pain and dysfunction in this joint, often resulting in difficulty opening and closing the mouth, clicking or popping sounds, headaches, and pain in the neck and shoulders.


Bruxism is a condition where an individual grinds or clenches their teeth unconsciously, usually during sleep. This condition can lead to tooth wear and damage, jaw pain, headaches, and other related symptoms. Bruxism is often related to stress and anxiety, but can also be caused by dental problems such as misaligned teeth or an improper bite.


Dr.Kashif Ahmed will treat these conditions with customized mouth guards. Wearing mouth guards mostly at night, will effectively prevent damage to the teeth caused by jaw movement disorders.
